So if something is working “Why change it”? Is usually what I ask, however my rep gave me a sample of the latest from the Ultra Calming Range the all new Redness Relief Primer!

RednessrRelief-Flier-Small

First thing I noticed is the increase in SpF from 15-20, all good as the Sun is a killer for anyone with redness to their skin or suffer from Rosacea, sun sensitivity.

So what’s it all about?? Comes in a  slim tube with the needle nose tip contains a translucent primer that’s tinted with natural green botanical extracts that treats the skin, counteracts redness, balances skin tone and as an added bonus primes the skin for makeup -all good!

This primer feels amazingly soothing on the skin, thanks in part to Oat Extracts and Oat Kernel Oil, and Dermalogica’s  “UltraCalming™ Complex.”  to calm and heal the skin, it does contain silicones which most primers do and this will help with the silky feel to it, there are no artificial fragrances, colors or parabens, and of course, it’s cruelty free.

Apart from how it feels on the skin, I actually like the greet tint, which tones down redness (remember  the colour wheel at school green counteracts red). The pale green tint is very sheer, once Iapplied the primer onto the skin it disappears just enough to tone down your redness, you can apply with finger tips or a sponge, however I prefer a brush as you lose less product.

Product comes with a plastic slide, how very ingenious is this? Just squeeze it on to the bottom of the tube and it squeezes every last drop of product out for you., amazing!

derm2

Will it take away redness – I doubt it but it does tone the skin down very well, has good coverage and feels great. I believe this will turn out to be one of their “HERO” products..

As everyone knows I enjoy the odd glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but heard something on the radio recently about how 1 glass of wine = a donut aaah!! I have always prided myself in not eating lots of sugar so can you imagine my horror to learn I was drinking it!!  So this got me thinking on how alcohol was affecting my skin and how can I combat it.

Now is the time to up the ante on your seasonal skincare routine. The cold blustery outdoors to a warm cosy indoors causes stress to your skin.

In this wintry weather, if the skin's natural barrier is weakened, moisture is lost and the surface layers of the skin crack easily. Potential irritants from the environment are also able to penetrate the barrier, which can cause redness and sensitivity.

Having tried many products over the years, from shop bought to salon professional I came across Environ after researching different product lines for my business. I have to say, it is the one product that I have seen visible results with, almost instantly.

environbodycreamBeautiful skin for a lifetime, the corner stone of Environ treatments is the fabulous Vitamin A.

Extensive scientific research and trials have shown that Vitamin A has a corrective effect on skin, smoothing, softening and protecting it from the effects of ultraviolet radiation and free radicals. It's most important activity, the combination of vitamins A, C & E can help repair and prevent damage done to the skin cells and preserve the skin's immunity and natural barrier.

Vitamin A is one of the most important, medically proven ingredients to normalise even sensitive skin. It has been clinically proven to protect, hydrate and restore the skin, normalising it by stimulating the growth of cells, thickening the basal layer of the epidermis and compacting the stratum corneum which is the most important layer of protection against the environment and sensitising ingredients.

Now lots of product houses claim these magnificent benefits even if they have the smallest dot of vitamin A in it. From what I understand, the skin acclimatizes to the amount of vitamin A, gets used to it and then increases in strength. So the results are progressive. You can and do, leave yourself open to a retinoid reaction if your products are not prescribed by a qualified skin care expert. This in itself is a good indication that if you can pick it up off the shelf and have no reaction then you are back to the tiniest little dot of ingredient. So if you buy off the shelves ask yourself, how much Vitamin A is actually in that product?

Your SKIN is what you EAT!

True to say when it comes to your skin "You are what you eat", to achieve a great healthy skin you need to work on the inside too. So as well as drinking mineral water it is essential to eat water rich food. Ditch the junk food and avoid sugar and decrease the caffeine, as well as increasing your vitamins and essential fatty acids

SKIN Nutrition

Much of our skin is made up of proteins and elastin to keep it firm, unfortunately as we age the levels of these drops, due to FREE RADICAL damage caused by sun exposure, smoking, drinking, pollution and stress. Your main vital organs take what they need for everything in your body to work properly and the skin gets the dregs, so imagine if you don't have a great diet (you know who you are) then your skin, hair and nails are getting next to nothing nutrition wise.

Good idea is to take into consideration, how far our food has traveled, how it was grown, how it was stored, how it was prepared or cooked – so really how it got to your plate and then how much vitamins & nutritrients are actually left. So do we take a supplement to up our intake?

omegaThe question of supplements is an individual choice- I say if you haven't tried it don't knock it.

But you do get what you pay for, same difference than if you shop at Aldi or Waitrose. I take a strip of supplements from Patrick Holford's range of Advanced Nutrition for the skin – a strip a day keeps wrinkles at bay!

In my strip is 1000mg Vitamin C, a broad spectrum Multi vitamin, 1000mg Omega 3 and a great quality anti oxidant So purely from a skin point of view, Vitamin C is essential for skin health and repair, it holds up the capillary walls and helps to build up a resistance to the sun, Omega 3 (essential fatty acids) moisturize the skin from the inside and helps all the systems to flow properly. Anti oxidants helps to mop up free radical damage and a broad spectrum multi vitamin enables these to work better.

Skin is what you eat!

eatThe best nutrition advice I've ever heard is to eat a rain bow every day, the "Rainbow" refers to a variety of fruit and vegetable colours. Eating purple, red, orange, yellow, green and blue fruit and vegetables ensures that you're getting a variety of nutrients to help feed your skin. I do my best to eat a rainbow, yeah it is not always possible but working fruit and veggies into every meal and snack helps. Try a berry smoothie or add fruit to cereals, pop some crunchy vegetables into your sandwich box, make sure you have steamed veg for dinner broccoli & carrots – a banana is your ideal fast food.

Want Clean Skin?

watercleaneObviously we shower, but then there are bits of our skin that are exposed ie face, neck & décolletage that need a more nourishing and gentle cleanse. This can be a post code lottery! If you live in London your skin gets very dirty, as opposed to a more rural or less built up area. You also need to take into consideration the type of job you do and what your skin is exposed to on a daily basis.

Facial Cleanser should not:

  • STING
  • MAKE YOU SKIN TIGHT AND DRY
  • SHOULD NOT LEAVE A RESIDUE OF PRODUCT ON YOUR SKIN
  • HAVE ANY GRAINS IN THEM

Your skin gets a surface layer of daily grease and grime from the pollution in the air, traveling on the tube or just being at home or work, pollution from central heating, air condition etc The clever thing about the skin is that it has an amazing protective barrier that stops dirt particles from absorbing into it. They just sit on the surface of this clever organ without ever penetrating.

avstcleanlotionboxwebSo if that is the case doing a deep cleanse is not really necessary. All you need is a cleanser that will remove this layer of grease and grime without any need to go any deeper. If you wear make-up then this layer of grease and grim will simply sit on top - so you just need a cleanser to clean your make up off and the job is all done! Best to cleanse twice 1. Clean of the skin 2. Clean the skin, 2 easy steps.

Always check your cleanser has no SD Alcohol as they will not only take off the grease and grime, but also the natural oils on the skin that act as the barrier. By removing them on a daily basis you will only comprise your skin. Over cleansed skins can comprise the delicate layer that is there to protect us from the grease and grime of the world - by over cleaning it you are putting your skin under undue stress.

d-cleanserBlack Heads are usually a sign or dirty skin, too much make up or fake tan or using cleansing wipes on a daily basis, or just not cleansing properly. Grease from the airsits in the pores and turns black, regular cleansing will help eradicate black heads. Basic cleansing is the first important step to an excellent skincare routine, a rough guide is that normal/combination skin use a cleansing gel/facial wash for a more mature/dry skin use a nourishing cleansing cream.

1. Protection, Protection, Protection

faceBecoming sun-wise by using a broad spectrum sun protection cream and staying out of the Sun between 12-3pm, protect against UVA & UVB, UVA Rays age & UVB Rays burn.

Remember the higher the SPF the higher the chemicals, look out for Titanium Dioxide a natural ingredient & remember to re-apply.

2. Don't Worry Be Happy

Happy people already believe they look good, so with a strong self-esteem & high energy levels & free from anxiety. Stress & anxiety cause free radical damage and restricted blood flow and oxygen to the cells. Exercise such as dancing, walking & yoga can help.

3. Where There is Smoke...There is wrinkles

Smoking robs the skin of oxygen and vital Vitamin C, doubling the rate at which your skin ages, leading to those horrible smokers lines & sallow skin.

4. Sleep Well

faceturbanSleep is the foundation of our wellbeing. Human growth hormone is released to revitalise your body and regenerate cells. The way you sleep also determines your wrinkles ie do you favour one side? If so you will have more wrinkles on that side. Broken sleep also leads to dark circles under the eyes

5. Your Skin is what you eat!

Eating the right foods gives the skin the nutrients it needs to be brighter, smoother & healthier with less wrinkles. Foods like anti-oxidant rich berries, broccoli, dark greens, natural oatmeal, salmon (full of essential fatty acids). We call these water rich foods, drinking water or herbal teas top these up. This is a great two pronged attack, your diet works on the inside and your skin creams work topically.
